All right, hey everyone.
Welcome to this edition of the Feel Better Letter.
This is Matt.
Today, I want to talk about fear and love, or fear and peace.
Well, they’re not necessarily synonyms, but they’re in the same range of emotion. And I want to really talk about how living in fear and living from fear will never take you to peace or love.
And one of the things that we have to really get honest with ourselves about is: What are we actually pursuing? What is it that we want? What is the endgame and outcome that we’re looking for?
And the reality is, if you strip everything away, we’re looking to obtain peace in life, or we’re looking to live from a state of love.
If you look at any goal you have, the reason you have that goal is because you think it will help you get closer to that.
So whether it’s a relationship, a certain income, a certain job, a certain house, whatever—it’s a thing where your mind believes that if that thing changes in your environment, the internal disturbance that is already there will resolve.
And if we really pay attention to that, it shows us that there’s this internal disturbance that’s just already there.
And for most of us, that’s just fear. It’s insecurity.
And because we’re in that fear, our mind is chatting all the time and running and saying this and saying that and projecting onto this, and, “What about this? What about this? What about this?”
And the trap that basically anyone who’s in the loop is in is that they are using fear to try to get out of fear.
They are operating from fear, thinking that if they operate from fear and overcome every obstacle that fear says, and every thought, and all the stuff that fear says to do to overcome fear, that they’re somehow going to wind up in peace.
And I think the important question to ask yourself is: Has that worked yet?
Because at best, what happens is we will have a certain fear, and we will, let’s say, confront it or overcome that projection of fear, and then we’ll feel still for a bit.
And then fear will come back up and create something else.
And that stillness, if you pay attention, is not a result of your effort.
It’s almost as if you stuck a pin in your leg and then pulled the pin out, and because you pulled the pin out, you feel good—not realizing that you created it to begin with.
And this is what living in fear is.
Fear is its own prison.
And living in fear will never take you to peace.
What you have to understand is, in order to get out of fear, you have to transcend fear.
That is the only path to love and peace in life.
If you follow the mind and you get caught in what the mind is saying and you engage in the fear thoughts, it will only create more fear.
It can only reinforce the fear.
And the trap that everyone in the loop is in is that we’re trying to live from fear and somehow get to another state.
And it just can’t work because, when you understand fear is a state of consciousness, you have to understand that the only way of getting out of that state of consciousness is to literally shift out of the state of consciousness itself—to transcend the state itself.
Not what the mind is saying.
And you don’t do that through thinking, through analyzing, through being rational, through all that stuff that the mind wants to convince you are the paths to take.
And this is why, when it really comes down to it, for most people, what has to happen is they have to get to the place where they’re just actually, like, done.
They’ve exhausted all options, and they’re actually done when it comes to trying to get out of fear using their own means.
And oftentimes, that’s a very low point when you reach that.
And my message today is: You don’t have to get to that point.
For some people, that’s just what it takes.
But you don’t have to let your life get to that point to learn how to transcend fear.
And in TBC, this is what we do.
In fact, in TBC, what we just did is now we have live office hours Monday through Friday for our members.
Because what we understand is this isn’t about having a session and talking about something and trying to rationalize and overcome a specific idea of the mind.
This is about implementing a practice that truly allows you to shift your state of consciousness out of the field of fear and into the field of trust.
And it’s something you and every other person can do.
It’s an inherent thing that we can learn, and we can learn to master.
Now, 95% of the world doesn’t do this.
And because 95% of the world doesn’t do this, we think that it’s hard or it’s impossible.
It’s because 95% of the world lives in the conditioning of the mind.
And just because everyone else lives that way doesn’t mean that you need to.
Just because most people go through their life in states of ongoing suffering to some degree because they’re always fleeing and trying to contend with lower emotional states doesn’t mean you need to.
And that is what Taking Back Control is about.
It’s not about learning to manage and cope with the symptoms of fear.
It’s about shifting your state of consciousness to the point where you actually live from a state of trust as your default.
Now, does it mean that you don’t experience emotions and that things don’t happen in life?
Of course not.
But when you’re in different states of consciousness, you just perceive them entirely differently.
And this is why, when it comes to intrusive thoughts and things like that, the reason the thoughts are intrusive is because of all the corresponding fear.
To prove my point on that, think of an intrusive thought that doesn’t, quote, bother you—a theme that doesn’t bother you.
So if you have health anxiety, think of an intrusive harm thought, or vice versa—an intrusive religious thought, something like that.
And think of something that doesn’t, quote, bother you.
Hold that thought in mind for just a second.
What you’re going to find is that the reason a thought is intrusive is because of all the corresponding emotion.
And when people say, “Oh, well, I’m always going to have intrusive thoughts,” you may have thoughts that pop into your mind, but when you really are in a completely different state, you perceive them just like you did the thought right there.
That’s what actually transcending fear is.
It’s not what your mind says about managing and coping.
And I really want you to hear that today.
What this work is about is not managing and coping with symptoms.
It’s about learning how to live from peace and love.
Learning how to do the inner work to truly get there.
And so, if that aligns with you and that’s what you’re looking for, then I’d really encourage you to fill out an application.
Because we just increased the number of groups that we’re running every week, and we love the fact that people get results.
And if you’re struggling, we want you to get those results.
We want to help you do that.
So if it feels aligned, we’ll have a link down below for an application.
And if not, that’s okay too.
And I really hope this letter served you well today.
With that, talk to you soon.
