OCD recovery· Denmark

Your advice and program has made me completely free of OCD — I have worked through the techniques you've suggested and omg, it has made me so competent in handling my fears.

It is in many ways about facing your fear and experiencing whatever feeling that comes with it, without resisting. Thank you for giving me those tools. I had struggled with “pure O” since I was 9, and now I hardly give it a thought anymore, hehe ;)

Best wishes, from Denmark.

Panic & anxiety

My anxiety started 10 years ago with a very bad panic attack and escalated into something I could have never imagined — including avoidance, intrusive thoughts, reassurance seeking, and a life that I knew was not something I wanted for myself and my family. Over the years I have tried therapists, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques, read every book on anxiety I could put my hands on, and spent thousands of dollars on gimmicks and tricks to relieve anxiety.

I came across Matt's YouTube videos about 2 years ago. Everything Matt said in his videos made complete sense, as if he was speaking directly to me. I decided that I was going to give this one last chance and joined the Restored Minds community. I was very hesitant, as it seemed nothing was going to work for me and I was going to have to figure out a way to live like this.

Once I joined Restored Minds I took my time to go through the educational program to be sure I really understood what was being taught. The program in itself is amazing, but the added bonus of group coaching took it to another level of getting your questions answered and feeling like you are part of a community that truly understands the struggles you are going through.

I'm so happy to say that with the AAA response and everything I have learned from Matt and other coaches in the program, I am doing better than I could have hoped for when I first started on this journey. What Matt teaches is nothing I have ever been taught before — that it's OK to have thoughts and feelings, and they are not dangerous, nor do they mean something is wrong that needs to be fixed. I would recommend this program to anyone suffering with any type of anxiety. Thank you so much, Matt!

Taking Back Control

I have been dealing with OCD since 2019, and Matt's program at Restored Minds has been the most helpful resource that I have encountered on my recovery journey thus far. Over the past seven years, I worked with multiple different mental health therapists and practiced many different treatments, including ERP, ACT, and I-CBT. However, despite all of the time and effort that I was putting into treatment, I was still not where I wanted to be in terms of recovery. I knew deep down that I was still performing fear-based behaviors and holding onto limiting beliefs that were negatively impacting my ability to fully recover. Thus, I decided to apply for the Taking Back Control Program.

Once enrolled, I really enjoyed the Foundations portion at the beginning of the program that provided helpful knowledge and education prior to actually diving into the first week. The program as a whole was very well structured, and I liked how I could work through the material on my own each week and then have a one-on-one session with Matt to discuss the content more in depth.

The emotional releases were the most helpful part of the program for me, as I did not have a healthy strategy for managing fear, anxiety, and doubt prior to enrolling in TBC. Learning how to properly release these lower emotions made a tremendous difference in my recovery. Performing the releases is what really enabled me to decrease the overall quantity of fear in my emotional tank, thus reducing the constant feeling of danger and the continuous urge to perform safety behaviors. In turn, I was finally able to let go of a lot of behaviors that were keeping me stuck in the fear loop and that were severely draining my time, energy, and soul.

After completing TBC, I also worked one-on-one with Matt for more individualized coaching. During these one-on-one sessions, Matt guided me through multiple different emotional releases that were extremely beneficial. He also provided me with notes from the sessions and audio recordings of the releases so that I can review any of the concepts that we discussed and go back and do any of the releases again on my own. Furthermore, even though I am no longer formally working with Matt, he still checks in on me regarding my progress, and he continues to give me additional tips and insights, which I truly appreciate!

TBC and the one-on-one coaching with Matt truly moved the needle in my recovery from OCD, and I would highly recommend this program to anyone seeking to break free from the grips of fear and anxiety for good. I will be forever grateful for the tools and strategies that Matt and his program provided me and the freedom that I have gained from fear as a result of implementing them.

Parent

Meeting Matt was one of the best things that happened to our family.

My daughter has struggled with OCD and anxiety for much of her 16 years, but for a long time we did not truly understand what she was dealing with or how to help her. We went from therapist to therapist searching for answers. She was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and described as an overthinker with a busy brain, but no one ever gave us a clear solution or a way to navigate it. Even then, we did not truly understand what OCD was. I had always thought OCD was about compulsions like touching things multiple times or lining things up in a certain order. I did not realize that OCD also shows up as intrusive thoughts, overthinking, and more. We were desperate for real strategies and practical tools she could put into her mental toolbox.

Finding Matt happened in the most unexpected way. I was on a hike and decided to listen to an audiobook. I was not searching for anything specific, but Matt's book appeared in the suggested reads. I clicked on it, and from that moment on, things began to change. We listened to his book multiple times. My daughter would listen before bed, and everything he described resonated so deeply with what she was experiencing. For the first time, we felt understood. Taking a chance on TBC and working with Matt one-on-one was the best decision we could have made.

Matt not only understands OCD on a personal level, but he is also an exceptional communicator. He was able to explain OCD in a way that finally made sense to us. He gave us the roadmap we had been searching for. Instead of feeling lost and overwhelmed, we finally understood what was happening and how to respond.

My daughter still struggles at times, but now we know exactly what she has and how to deal with it when it shows up. We recognize when the fisherman is trying to lure her in again. We notice when new safety behaviors begin to appear. We understand when she is being pulled back into the loop, and most importantly, we know how to get out of it. Matt has given us a formula for navigating intrusive thoughts, safety behaviors, and energy levels in a way that feels manageable and empowering.

Matt is extremely relatable, an incredible communicator, and someone who has made a lasting impact on our family. We are deeply grateful for the guidance and clarity he has given us.

OCD recovery

I was troubled with OCD from early 2019, only realising what it was by late 2019. Like so many it disrupted my life, I couldn't perform my job properly, be mentally present when with those close to me and it put me to tears on a few occasions. I had only a few hours of respite each day. When I first came across Restored Minds, I didn't think I needed it. Shortly after, my OCD got worse so I decided to take action and get stuck in, and signed up to Restored Minds.

As soon as I signed up, Matt was with me from the first step, which gave a sense of comfort. As I got into the course, I immediately noticed how well it is presented, from explaining the fundamentals to even the soothing backdrop in Matt's videos.

The way the course unfolds couldn't be better, and gradually introduces you to the concepts, to understanding OCD and anxiety, and finally, taking steps to recovery. Nothing ever felt a step too far away.

Coming from where I was in early 2019 to starting recruit training with the Marines, I owe Matt (and MYSELF) a great deal of gratitude and pride, although I accept my journey of recovery is not yet finished, I can absolutely say I am now in a state of mind to live life on my terms and to its fullest value.

I have since left the Marines as I found through experience that it was not the career for me, and I'm now setting my sights to travel on my Harley to Australia. Cheers to Matt, myself and Restored Minds!

I have been with your program since May 2020. It has changed my life. It finally came together for me over the last month and I can see the light at the end of this long tunnel. I am recognizing what is OCD very quickly and using the Triple-A response always when unwanted thoughts arise.

The online community with the coaching calls was also a game changer, as well as your short review classes over the past month of the Triple-A response. I'm going to go out on my own now and fly — actually, Soar!! I hope to help others dealing with this as well!!

Thank you so much for all you have done for me. I may be back to review your program again from time to time.

Matt is very knowledgeable in the guidance and direction in and through the recovery journey from OCD/anxiety. His tools and the structure that he teaches within his Restored Minds Program is far more superior than anything else I have come across on the web. Why? Because he's lived it and been through it, and has direct inside knowledge that far too many others don't have — because they haven't been through it, they've been taught it, and there is a huge difference between the two.

I highly recommend Restored Minds if you're serious about recovery and getting your life back on track!

It's hard to overstate how much Restored Minds helped our family get through a difficult time. From a husband's perspective, I was in a constant and desperate search for the right things to do or say that might ease the pain my wife was feeling through her battle with OCD, anxiety and depression. I never gave up hope even in the darkest times, but I began to accept that there was not going to be any quick fix.

And I don't want to say it was overnight, but I'm still in disbelief how quickly this program changed our lives for the better. My wife was willing to open her mind and work at it, but Matt's videos resonated immediately. From day 1 her understanding of how to deal with the anxiety and her outlook on life changed dramatically. We both learned, and continue to realize, how these are tools to live a healthier and happier life. I will be forever grateful to Matt and Restored Minds.

I cannot express how much the Restored Minds program has helped me. I bounced around from different therapists and healing approaches without any success and I was left with even more anxiety and confusion. Once I began the Restored Minds program I was filled with hope, as it felt like Matt was reading my mind. I decided to focus entirely on his teachings and tools as if it were my job. The personal journey isn't easy, but the benefits of not being scared of and controlled by anxiety continue to be priceless. The teachings are simple and very well laid out. It is so nice to go at my own pace and to be able to refer back when needed.

There is such a sense of peace knowing that I am not alone and that anxiety is not a life sentence. Thank you, thank you!

Prior to connecting with Restored Minds I was in a debilitating state of anxiety. I experienced a freak incident related to a possible toxic exposure which led to a lengthy search for a therapist that could help. After almost one year of treatment with 6 different therapists, I was still not improving. It was out of hopelessness that I went to YouTube and discovered Matt and Restored Minds. Matt and Restored Minds have given me the tools and techniques to overcome my anxiety disorder. Rather than just experiencing “talk therapy,” Restored Minds provided me with a toolkit and new skill set to handle whatever life throws my way. I am forever grateful for the program and therapy sessions that have given me my life back.

I would highly recommend Restored Minds to anyone who is struggling with anxiety or psychological stress in any area of their life.

I have suffered from various forms of OCD since my early teenage days, but was unaware of what was really wrong with me until finding this program. I thought I would just have to keep fighting this from time to time for the rest of my life. I approached the course with much trepidation, as it meant facing the fact that I had a problem that I could not fix on my own. Once I took the step, I felt immediately supported by the caring and understanding community. Just knowing we were all in this together and rooting for each other gave me a huge sense of relief.

For the first time in my life I found hope, especially knowing that Matt had been there and found the way out.

The course enabled me to see what my life could be outside of the lens of OCD, and to work toward this. OCD had cost me so much in terms of career and relationships. As I worked through the program I had the tools to attack the OCD and live free, to not “take the bait” of thoughts that come from OCD. My life has changed, I am at peace. Please do this course — like me, you have nothing to lose and your life to regain.

Our teenage son was struggling with OCD for some time and had no success with traditional therapy. We feel so fortunate to have been referred to Matt Codde, LCSW. In a matter of a couple of weeks our son showed huge improvement, and by the end of his program he was doing no compulsions. The Triple-A Response and additional tools Matt provided are amazing.

He made sure to include us throughout the entire process, which we really appreciated. He went above and beyond to help our son overcome OCD and we can't thank him enough. If you are looking for a kind, caring professional to help you or your loved one, look no further.

Our 16 year old has been dealing with OCD for many years. We have seen many therapists during this time, but none has had a greater impact than Matt. Matt was able to quickly relate to his issues because of his own history with OCD. Matt has taught him many tools and techniques to successfully beat OCD. The Triple-A response was extremely effective. It was easy for my son to understand and apply to his OCD. We are forever grateful to Matt for helping our son!

We spoke once in a video call back in 2018. You have been a huge influence in my life. I have followed the steps in the masterclass and it has made me a new person. Back in 2018 I had no contact with my parents, I was constantly picking fights with people, and I was just in a really bad headspace.

Your program has taught me so much about myself and it has made a difference that I can't even begin to describe. I want to thank you as sincerely as I can for helping me and other people with OCD. You have saved me in a lot of ways (I know this probably will come across as dramatic), but for me it meant a lot that you had dealt with OCD yourself, and all your videos and your teaching really resonated with me.

Today I feel better than I ever have. I still struggle with OCD, but it doesn't control my life, and I get better at dealing with it every day. I have a great relationship with my family and I am motivated to live a full life, and to do the things that I dream of. Thank you again — I wish I could express how appreciative I am of the help you have given me.

I understand so much more about OCD on a deeper level… My earliest thoughts of harm go back to when I was 4 years old… Your program has turned my life completely around.

Read full storyShow less

I'm at the point now where I understand so much more about OCD on a deeper level. I have learned so incredibly much from my 12 weeks in your program.

I know we've talked briefly about my lifelong struggle with OCD and anxiety. My earliest thoughts of harm go back to when I was 4 years old — I was convinced a certain pair of rainboots turned me into a bloodsucking vampire. It sounds so silly now, but looking back I remember having to receive multiple blessings to help relieve my stress for nearly a year.

Moving forward, although I know the content doesn't matter with OCD, the fears would shift from contamination, harm, sexual intrusive thoughts of every kind, religious/moral scrupulosity, and finally during my marriage, cheating and relationship OCD with a mixture of all of the above after having children. During my childhood I dealt with a plethora of behaviors to keep the distress “at bay” — excessive praying, thought blocking, reassurance from my mother on each and every thought, and some very odd behaviors stemming from magical thinking that greatly damaged my quality of life.

During my struggles I have been to therapists and coaches that have helped periodically. Some have damaged me even more, but through this you have shown me the right tools are needed, and these people just didn't have them. After finding your videos on YouTube and then following your podcasts, I knew I needed to choose Restored Minds.

I say this with much emotion coming from a place of such turmoil: it was the best decision I have ever made. Your program has turned my life completely around. I have eliminated such damaging beliefs about myself that have affected every decision I have made in my life up until now. I look at not only OCD but the world in a brand new way. I have had multiple setbacks, but each time they become easier to deal with and stick for much less time. I am finally able to separate myself from my thoughts and I almost look forward to the next opportunity to get to do so. I never thought I'd say that. I will forever more apply the Triple-A, and I absolutely know that with these tools I can achieve greater things.

Taking Back Control

I wanted to reach out now that the 12 weeks have passed. It's been an incredibly busy time post-Christmas, but I finally have a moment to provide a progress update. I am doing great — better than great! For the first time in as long as I can remember, I feel a mental clarity that allows me to learn, relax, and plan my days with ease.

The programme provided me with the critical understanding of what was happening to me. This insight was a significant stepping stone. The tools were pivotal in breaking the loop I had been stuck in for years. I haven't experienced that loop for weeks now, which is a first for me in YEARS!

I've had countless light bulb moments — realising how resistant I was to my feelings and bringing awareness to that resistance. The guided releases were invaluable to me. I discovered how engaged and trapped in my mind I had been since childhood. Now I'm learning to reconnect with my body (not perfectly, but I'm aware and trying!). I also identified mental behaviours and blind spots, such as binge-watching TV as a form of distraction.

Fear had been my constant companion for years, often without my awareness. Although I am far from perfect today, I now have space in my life. The loop has gone as the resistance has gone (and even if it returns, that's ok — I know how to handle it). I've dropped a significant amount of resistance and continue to work on this regularly. Currently, I'm going through the new content in the programme to embed the knowledge further, which is just great.

I haven't attended many live calls due to timezone issues, but I've utilised office hours and guided meditation recordings frequently. So I want to extend a heartfelt thank you. I never thought I could reach this point. The work you do is truly amazing. Thank you.

To give you an idea of where I'm at in the program — I watched the video for week 8 yesterday. At some point I'll probably go back and watch all the new content from the weeks I already went through on the old version.

Overall I feel like I've gotten a lot of useful guidance and learned quite a bit thus far — whether through the online course or group calls. I like the unconventional structure of the TBC program compared with therapy I've done in the past. I've especially enjoyed the group calls with Kai — she is extremely patient and seems to always have sage advice for all of us.

I still struggle to implement interventions that would probably be helpful for me — I'm thinking of behaviors like meditation, Wim Hof breathing, guided releases, good behaviors around sleep, etc. I also tend to engage in “self-medicating” behaviors with food that I think hold me back both physiologically and emotionally/spiritually (i.e. I numb pain instead of feeling/metabolizing it). The change in weather over the past few weeks to cold and gloomy always takes a toll on me, so that's another thing kind of working in the background.

Thank you for all your help with this cumbersome road of mind games. You've stated facts, and I've heard you say it before. To get to the point of not caring or analyzing what the mind keeps saying seems to be a long road. It doesn't make any sense why I continue to be inclined to chase the thoughts, and I really don't want to chase them or even care about them. It's like the mind has decided that this is who we are, deal with it, and just keep moving on with or without their persistence to be noticed. Grateful for all you do.
