How Does OCD develop? What Causes OCD?
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) features a pattern of unwanted thoughts called obsessions, that produce anxiety, which lead you to perform repetitive behaviors called compulsions. These obsessions and compulsions tend to get worse over time and can interfere with daily activities and cause significant distress.
In this video, I discussed how OCD develops specifically the four components that causes OCD to form. If you have friends and family members who are suffering from OCD, feel free to share this information with them to help spread awareness and education.
All right. Hey, my friend. And welcome to this episode where we're going to talk about how OCD develops in someone's life or, you know, essentially what causes OCD or obsessive compulsive disorder to develop. And, um, you know, what I,...
How to Make Real Lasting Change - Pt.5: Identity
Mahatma Gandhi famously said, “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” I’m sure you’ve heard this before, or at the very least seen it on a bumper sticker. But have you ever asked yourself what it really means?
In this week’s episode, we are going to talk about the concept of identity, which is ultimately a way of being. Identity is one of the most powerful levels to create change in your life. And as we conclude this series on change felt it only right to end with the most powerful level. Our Identity creates belief, and like we discussed last week, belief ultimately drives behavior.
So when we want to address unhealthy behaviors in our lives and create real lasting change the most important place to start is our identity.
I hope you enjoy this episode. ...
How to Make Real Lasting Change - Pt.4: Beliefs
In this week’s episode, I will be discussing one of my favorite topics in the world. When it comes to making the change in your life there are few things more powerful than underlying beliefs.
Your beliefs drive EVERYTHING. Especially your behavior.
And once you really understand this, if you want to make a behavioral change, it only makes sense to start at the belief.
Now to put simply, a belief is a story you tell yourself - often unconsciously. You can even think of beliefs as the assumptions we just carry around in the background and never think twice about it.
So, in this episode, I will be discussing why uncovering and changing your limiting beliefs can be one of the most transformational things you can do.
Enjoy the show!
All right. Hello. And welcome to this episode...
How to Make Real Lasting Change - Pt. 3: Learning New Skills
I’ll keep it short today.
For the last two weeks, we’ve been on a new series talking about how to create real, lasting change in your life. So far we’ve discussed environmental changes and behavior changes and I explained that while these might be well-intended, they are often ineffective ways to make long-term change in our lives.
So in this episode, I will be discussing the idea of learning new skills to support behavior change. If you are trying to facilitate any type of change in your life, it is very helpful to support that change with a framework or skill to help you sustain the change.
For example, when taking on something like OCD, it might sound simple when someone says, “don’t do compulsions,” but we all know it’s just not that easy....
How to Make Real Lasting Change - Pt. 2: Behavioral Change
How many times have you told yourself that you’re going to change an unhealthy behavior in your life?
You might have the best intentions, you might know why you want to change, you might visualize the change, you might even be excited about what that change will produce, but after a few short weeks, you find yourself right back in your old ways.
Why is that?
Well, In this episode, I will be discussing why using intention and willpower to change a specific behavior, is often ineffective and doesn’t last over the long term. It’s almost like paddling a canoe upstream, eventually, you’ll burn out and the water will bring you right back where you started.
The reality is willpower alone is not an effective method for changing behavior. Sure it might work for a few weeks, but in this series, we...
How to Create REAL Change In Your Life
Have you ever tried to make a big change in your life only to wind up right back in your old patterns a few weeks later?
Maybe it was a diet change, or trying to remove a toxic person, or cutting out certain unhealthy behaviors (like compulsions).
And have you ever wondered why making REAL lasting change is so tough?
Well this week, I am excited to announce that we are creating a new series on how to create real lasting change in your life. In this first episode, I will be discussing the different levels of change that we can implement in our lives. I am also going to discuss one of the lowest levels of change, which focuses on environmental change and how this is the most commonly pursued but often the least effective.
The work we are going to do in this series will definitely unlock some of the...
How to Deal with Panic Attacks In The Workplace
This week we are wrapping up our series on anxiety and the workplace. And for the final episode I wanted to discuss the topic panic attacks because it is a question I get frequently. Panic attacks are the highest level of anxiety a person can experience. On a scale of discomfort ranging from 1-10, panic attacks are a very clear 10! And for people who struggle with panic attacks one of the scariest things about them is they can happen at any time, often for no apparent reason. You could be watching a movie, out grabbing a bite to eat, or even sitting at your desk and bam it strikes without warning.
When panic symptoms arise it's very natural to resist them and avoid whatever situation might be triggering the response. But as you will see in the episode, when we resist panic symptoms and avoid things...
How to Overcome Anxiety About Losing a Job
Losing a job, however it happens, can be an incredibly stressful experience, I know from experience. One day you have a steady stream of income to support your family, and then in an instant, your world gets turned upside down. And while it can be a difficult transition to navigate, I have seen so many people experience this painful loss thousand of times, but never actually lose their job in real life. Their anxious mind has them worrying about every possible scenario you can imagine. And man oh man, can that part of your mind can have a field day with this topic, especially if left unchecked....
“What if my boss fires me because I didn’t close that deal?”....
“Then what if I can't pay my bills?”...
“Then what if I end up going homeless?”...
“Then what if I have to move...
How to Overcome Workplace Anxiety and Stress
In this episode, I am going to talk about stress and anxiety in the workplace. In order to overcome stress and anxiety in the workplace, it is SO important to accurately identify the specific stressor within work, as opposed to assuming that work itself is the problem. Sometimes simple shifts make huge differences in a person’s psychological and emotional well being. So in this episode, I will be discussing THREE areas to consider if you are feeling a lot of stress and anxiety related to your work.
Number 1 - Your Work Environment or Team
Number 2 - Your Individual Responsibilities
Number 3 - Your Personal Growth
Exploring these three areas will help you develop better self-awareness of your current situation, and ultimately take better corrective actions in your life. So if you are struggling with stress and anxiety...
How to Handle Unemployment Anxiety
In this episode, I discuss Anxiety and Unemployment. The economic impact of COVID-19 has resulted in a large number of people losing their jobs. Now life during a global pandemic is stressful enough, but when you add more layers of problems (like financial uncertainty) into the mix, it’s no wonder we are seeing a dramatic spike in mental health issues across the board. Now I speak from experience when I say that losing a job can seem like the end of the world, especially when it happens unexpectedly.
But it is critical to maintain perspective and realize that this moment is simply the end of that chapter of your life and is by no means the end of your story. So in this episode, I will be sharing my experiences with job loss and bouncing back from it. I’ll also share some additional tips to help you through this transitional...
