How to Handle Unemployment Anxiety

The Importance of Being Authentic
In this episode, I discuss the importance of authenticity and how it plays a large role in our recovery. From a very early age our emotional needs revolve around two things - the ability to attach to our caregivers and the ability to be authentic. However, if we learn that being authentic threatens our attachment we will almost always choose attachment over authenticity. This can lead to us suppressing different aspects of ourselves, which in turn can manifest into a variety of physical, mental, and emotional problems. Distractions & Increased Mental Illness
In this episode, I discuss several major mental health issues that are growing during this global pandemic. According to initial research, there is an alarming increase in the number of domestic violence, suicide, drug overdose, and child abuse cases during this pandemic. Now, I know it’s easy to quickly put the blame on macro forces beyond our control such as COVID-19 and the mandatory quarantine. Anxiety & Leaps of Faith
In this episode, I talk about taking leaps of faith. Taking a leap of faith essentially means to act on something without being certain of the outcome. For example, when you ask someone on a date, you can’t be certain if they are going to say “Yes” until after you ask. Taking action is actually what produces a certain outcome. When it comes to anxiety recovery most of us strive to be certain before we take action. The problem is there is no way to be certain without taking action so we remain stuck. Letting Go of Control During Crisis
As we continue this series on managing ourselves well during this pandemic. I want to discuss the concept of letting go of control. The overwhelming majority of life is beyond our control. And our inability to be certain about the future can lead to anxiety, which in turn, can lead us to attempting to control things to mitigate potential threats. The problem is that when we spend today trying to control tomorrow we miss out on what today has to offer. And if we miss out on today again and again, eventually we can miss out our entire life.
